Broadly speaking, i find two kind of cases most irritating...
1) When my battery is low and i have some really important call to attend
2) When Network coverage is bad and i can't hear what the hell the person on the other end is talking about!
If you have the same problem then its about time you know about some of the interesting features in nokia phones.
Nokia phones of the older generation (like say 3310 &3315) were first experimented with changeable Codecs i.e half rate and full rare codecs.
End Users can change the way phone uses its power resources....
You can choose between two modes "Enhanced Half Rate Codec" and "Enhanced full Rate Codec".
In EHR (i.e Half Rate Codec) The power consumption is lower than the normal, that means for the same amount of charge remaining you can talk for a greater period of time. Altough the quality of sound will be poorer than usual. This mode is particularly useful in the case 1 as i said earlier... You can get larger talktime from the battery

EFR(Enhanced Full Rate Codec) is just the opposite, here focus lies on the quality of sound rather than the power resources. Its particularly useful when you have enough power left but in an area where the network coverage is poor, and so effecting the sound quality , as in case 2 above.
